There are some toys that seem to become part of a childhood rather than simply belonging in the toy basket, and Blabla dolls have always felt a little like that to us. Happily, they are also practical enough for real life - Blabla dolls can be machine washed!
Blabla began in 2001, after friends Susan Pritchett and Florence Wetterwald travelled to Peru and discovered the extraordinary knitting traditions of local artisans. Inspired by their skill and the beautiful natural fibres available there, they began creating a collection of soft toys that brought traditional handcraft together with Florence’s playful, contemporary designs.
More than twenty years later, the dolls are still knitted and embroidered by hand in Peru. Each one has the tiny variations that make handmade pieces feel special, while the soft Peruvian cotton gives them their distinctive texture.
The collection is full of rabbits, bears, cats, monkeys and wonderfully quirky creatures, each with its own name and personality. They are beautifully designed, but never too precious: made to be cuddled, carried around and loved.
We love Blabla because they bring together so many things we value at Mondocherry - traditional skills, natural materials, thoughtful design and objects with enough character to be treasured for years.
