Main Sauvage
Beautiful designed toys handmade from natural materials
Main Sauvage is a French children’s brand founded in 2015 by Cécile and Julien, who began the business just after completing their studies in architecture. Their design background is easy to see in the collection; simple shapes, beautifully considered colours and little characters that feel playful without being overly bright or busy.
Their much-loved knitted toys are handmade in a family-run fair-trade workshop in the Bolivian Andes. The workshop provides good working conditions and fair incomes for local women, while helping support their families and children’s schooling. Each toy is knitted from pure baby alpaca wool, an exceptionally soft, renewable natural fibre that is naturally hypoallergenic and antibacterial, making it particularly lovely for babies and young children.
Main Sauvage uses the alpaca’s beautiful natural shades of white, grey, black and brown wherever possible, avoiding dyes altogether for many pieces. When colour is added, the brand uses non-toxic, environmentally considerate dyes. The soft toys are also filled with fibres made from recycled plastic bottles, and are designed to meet European safety standards from birth.
What we especially love is that they don’t feel like toys that need to be packed away when playtime is over. Their soft colours, natural materials and wonderfully expressive faces make them just as lovely sitting on a shelf or bed as they are being carried around by a small hand.
