Colour lessons from nature

The soft grey-green of eucalyptus leaves after rain. Deep olive moss on old stone. Fresh lime shoots appearing on a branch that looked lifeless only weeks before. Nature never relies on one shade, and that’s what makes it feel so effortless.

Green isn’t always fashionable, but it seems to belong almost anywhere. It sits comfortably beside timber, linen, white walls, old books and worn leather. Whether you love modern design or classic design, there is a green for you.

Try this at home

Look out your window and notice how many shades of green you can see, even in winter, when many of the trees only have bare branches.

Even a single plant will have multiple shades.

Which are you most drawn to?

Where could you add a touch of your favourite green in a room this week? Even if it is just displaying foliage from the garden.

On our studio table

Every artwork begins with mixing paint colours. Some are deliberate, while others are a happy accident, adding to the uniqueness of each artwork.

We’ve learnt that our layering techniques create even more shades, as contrast, light and shadows create subtle variations and what looked like one shade of green suddenly becomes many. We have a brand new green artwork coming soon!

Our story

We’ve developed a distinctive artistic practice using hand painted paper as our primary medium.

Our inspiration comes from nature and each composition develops organically and focuses on colour and texture.

Found beauty

There must be a dozen different greens in the old peeling paint on these cupboard doors. Every scratch and nick telling the story of a long life, well lived.

A reminder that nature isn't the only place to discover greens.
