Spring in bloom

There is something about the first spring flowers that makes our hearts beat faster! After months of winter, we love to see blossoms appearing on trees, new growth in the garden, and buckets of beautiful blooms appearing at the florist.

Flowers have always been an endless source of inspiration for us. Few things can lift a room quite as quickly as florals. A casual bunch on the kitchen table, a single stem by the bed, a floral artwork, a patterned cushion, or even a tiny flower motif, can all bring a little freshness and life to your home.

Try this at home

There are plenty of alternatives to just popping a bunch of fresh flowers in your go-to vase. Why not try these ideas.

  • Display single stems in collected glass jars and bottles down a dining table.
  • Float flower heads in a shallow bowl.
  • Tie string or ribbon around a jar and hang from a door handle or as a group from nails on a wall.
Mondocherry studio with a detailed paper floral artwork

In our studio

Our botanical paper artworks are inspired by memories of our Grandmother’s small but beautiful garden in Dorset.

Each artwork takes weeks to make. We begin by hand-painting and cutting individual petals and leaves, that we then layer to create one-of-a-kind 3D artworks.

It is intricate and fiddly work, but that is also what we love about it. Every flower and leaf is different, just as it would be in a real garden.

Found beauty

Beauty doesn’t have to be rare or exotic to be worth noticing.

The humble daisy appears almost everywhere in spring, quietly dotting lawns and verges with tiny flashes of white.

Each daisy is quite perfect with its bright yellow centre, a ring of simple white petals, sometimes with touches of pink, and that wonderfully fresh green stem.

One of a series of artworks in which we zoom right in, focusing on one single flower in all its detail. The flower becomes almost abstract, a study of petals, colour and shape, translated carefully into painted and layered paper.
